~ Scared Out of My Britches

On Friday, Brody and I were in need of some air, so I decided to take Brody for a walk down the river trail to Corn Lake. We took some bread for the ducks, and a few snacks for Brody. It was a very lovely walk to the lake. There were lots of ducks and geese as well as a crane that I managed to get a pretty neat pic of somewhat in the fall sunset...

Brody and I tried several times to feed the ducks, but Brody insisted on throwing rocks into the lake so he kept scaring them away...Little stinker:) Anyhow, it was getting late, so we scooted right along in an attempt to get back to the house before we lost the remainder of the sun.

Right as we were turning off to cross the ditch into our subdivision, I noticed to animals up ahead of us about 20 +/- yards away. At first I thought they were just dogs, but there were no other people around that would have been like their owners. Then I remembered JC telling me one time that there were coyotes back there. So immediately I started to move along a bit quicker, cause the little bridge over the ditch is super narrow and I struggled getting Brody and his stroller over it going out there. I quickly pushed Brody over the ditch managing to do so with no problem this time. I then stopped to watch the two animals again. They were sniffing around and trotting our way, so I moved into the subdivision a little more where there was a couple putting lights on their house. Too bad I have terrible long distance eyesight cause I couldn't make out for sure if these animals were in fact coyotes or just dogs. But whichever they were, they came to the ditch where Brody and I crossed and continued to sniff around some more. They were there for a minute or two, never crossing the ditch, but watched me watch them. They finally turned back and continued sniffing around the trail and into some brush where I eventually lost sight of them.

I pushed Brody the rest of the way home thinking "I am never going back there again!" I figured that if these animals were dogs they would have gone across the ditch as we did and continued trotting loosely through our neighborhood as any tamed house pet with no leash on or owner to hold them back would have.

Our little river trail adventures to the lake to feed the ducks are over now. It's bittersweet, but I don't think I could handle that kind of encounter again. Coyotes or not my pulse was racing and I nearly pooped myself!
